Well-being comes first!

Many sustainable development goals are featured on the United Nation’s website. Among all of them, I chose to write about the one named “Ensure healthy lives and promote well-being for all at all ages” for two reasons. Firstly, this goal is directly related to my field of study since I will study to become a medical ultrasound technician in my next session. Indeed, I think that medical ultrasound is useful to discover different health issues. Moreover, it is a very useful technique to make sure that the baby’s growth is normal. For these two reasons, I would say that ultrasound is connected to this goal because we use it to ensure healthy lives. Also, as mentioned on the website WebMD, ultrasounds are less expensive than other methods, they capture images of soft tissues that do not show up well on X-rays and they are painless in general. Once again, for these three reasons, ultrasound is a part of sustainable development. Finally, one of the main issues in Quebec is the notion about well-being for all at all age. It is a problem because between all age groups a lot of seniors do not receive as much health care as they should. For example, an article posted by CTV News said that many of the residents from the CHSLD Herron died and reports emerged of negligent conditions. In conclusion, cases similar to the ones that were reported in this CHSLD are very problematic because senior's well-being are at risk.

You chose an excellent goal, because it is obvious that a well-being and a healthy life are the mains priorities to have. Since a few years, there are a lot of news about negligence and violence on elders, often with videos that prove it. I am now becoming scared to send my grand-parents is CHSLD due to those horrible stories. We should feel safe and happy to send them there. It is important that we improved their quality of life.

Medical stake is a subject we don’t talk about enough, a lot of people will pass by medical care in their lives. Just like we see in the CHSLD, there is a lack in a lot of aspects, medical care, social engagement, comfort, etc. Getting old isn’t something we apprehend when we look at people in this situation! I think we shouldn’t stop talking about these stakes until we arrive to good life conditions at all age. We still have a long way to go.

I loved your article because I learned a few facts that I didn't know, especially about ultrasounds! It is also so true that not all age groups are treated equally here in Quebec. It really frustrates me that we are scared to send our elders to retirement homes, because of what could possibly happen to them.

I really think you are absolutely right! It is so unfortunate the way seniors are being treated in the places where they are supposed to be well looked after. Especially since, in Quebec, we sometimes take pride in how we value them. Everyone deserves to receive the medical assistance they need or even require. Additionally, I was not aware this ultrasound technique could contribute to sustainable development like that, it does amaze me. So, thank you for informing us on that matter.
