Out of all the things we learned about permaculture today, the most interesting and impactful point was to “integrate rather than segregate”. Specifically, how planting basil and tomato plants in close proximity helps ripen tomatoes faster. As you can see in the image, both tomato and basil plants are growing wonderfully side by side. This is particularly useful information to me because I grow many tomato and basil plants in my own garden. I am Italian, and these two ingredients are major components of our cuisine. This new gardening tip is one I shall use for many seasons to come.
