A balance between interest of the individual and the community's interest

I believe that sacricing your interests for the greater good of the community is good. It is good because the society would be a lot more effective for production and effective for happiness. This would be perfect for a society where emotions do not exist, but they do exist, so this idea causes problem. It might affect productivity and the mood of the person who is sacrificing his interest. Thus, my idea is not an extreme of the question but a balance of both.
