Many mixed emotions came over me when reading The Handmaid’s Tale by Margaret Atwood. One particular emotion that I felt very strongly was anger. Anger is the strong feeling of annoyance and hostility. When I was reading what the Aunts are teaching the Handmaid’s, I deeply felt this strong emotion. They are brainwashing the Handmaid’s into being ashamed of their bodies and believing that if rape occurs, it is solely their fault. Reading this makes me very angry because it is not okay for them to teach the Handmaid’s such a horrible thing.
