I believe that Lucy Maud Montgomery’s story, “Dog Monday’s Vigil”, promotes animal welfare instead of animal rights and animal liberation. This is due to the fact that the story encourages Dog Monday’s persistent love and loyalty to his owner Jem, who is a human. Animal rights activists, as well as animal liberation activists, frown upon such unbalanced relationship dynamics between humans and animals.
