The Banksy artwork I chose was “The Bad Artists Imitate, The Great Artists Steal”, (fig.1) a slab of stone carved with the famous quote by Pablo Picasso, in a formal bold font. Below the quote, Picasso’s name is crudely scratched out, and below is scribbled “Banksy” in the informal signature of the infamous outsider artist. I chose this piece simply because it made me laugh out loud. I also thought this artwork was perfect to analyze for this class, as it deals with the social and cultural issues of originality in the artistic world.
