Breaking Ground on the Plains

I've only worked here for a bit. It was a tough job but nothing I couldn't take care of. Although my senior supervisors have been through harsher, none of them were as experiences or as liked as Jordan. Jordan’s boots would crush against the frozen earth as he'd approach the drill site, his face shadowed with exhaustion. Since 1984, he’d been digging for oil in the Peace River Oil Sands, just northeast of Grande Prairie. Around here, folks called him “Diggy.” He wore the nickname like a badge of honour, a nod to decades of hard work and broken backs. But lately, the work had lost its pride.
