Case Study for Peer Review

This student is selectively mute - they have spoken at home, but has never spoken in school since starting Kindergarten, to neither peers nor adults. This student was observed by a school psychiatrist, who determined that their selective mutism is likely rooted in anxiety or PTSD. Other students in the class are respectful and understanding of this student’s mutism, and are quick to advocate for them - they will often translate or assist this student in order to ensure that their needs are met.
