According to the Gregorian calendar, which most countries adhere to, January 1st represents the start of the new year. Often celebrated with fireworks, new resolutions, and good wishes to friends and family members, it is defined as a secular holiday. However, it is not everyone who celebrates the start of the New Year on January 1st. While New Year’s Day is one of the most celebrated public holiday, the Gregorian calendar simply does not have the same spiritual importance for other religious groups (i.e., Judaism and Islam) as it is more intimately connected with Christian culture.
