At the beginning of the chapter, it mentions giving excess. I think this relates to the ying and yang theory. You need to give your excess to those who have less in order to keep the balance in your life. I think today’s society should follow more ancient Chinese’s philosophy because we live in excess. Most of us own 5-6 pairs of shoes when we only need one. Life would be simpler if we lived with only what is necessary. We would take better care of what we have and we would appreciate what others give to us more. I think that is was laozi wanted people to do.
