Freedom is important for educators. As an ESL teacher, I am free to choose which type of activities I want my students to complete and the evaluation tools I need to assess my students. There are only two things I can’t choose. First, there are the ESL competencies that my students are evaluated on as they are part of the curriculum developed by the Ministry of Education. Second, there is the final exam because there has to be a consensus from all the ESL teachers at our school.
