Flaming Church

In the art park "Nikola-Lenivets" in the Kaluga region on Maslenitsa, a 30-meter art object, which is a church made of branches, was burned to the sound of shamanic chants. Shrovetide (Maslenitsa) is an East Slavic pagan holiday that has found its place in the Christian Orthodox tradition. The modern celebration of Shrovetide is a celebration of the end of winter, the beginning of Lent. The culmination of the celebration is the burning of Maslenitsa, which personifies winter, a feminine persona in Eastern European culture.
