“The Hockey Sweater” by Roch Carrier, presents Quebeckers being French Canadian nationalists, hockey fans and specifically fans of the Montreal Canadiens, and pretends that all Quebeckers fit into this demographic. This vision of monotony is demonstrated in the description of the narrator and his friends all combing their hair the same way, all wearing the same number, all copying Maurice Richard’s playstyle, etc. We find that this representation of the society of Quebec is quite inaccurate, as the majority of the members of our community do not fit the stereotype of the white, catholic…
