Religious thought and consideration of how humans can best serve as stewards of the Earth and its ecosystem have a long history. Many religions hold the view that since God (or other deities) is thought to have created the Earth and mankind, it is the duty of God's children to take care of his creations. This viewpoint is prevalent in many religions, especially Buddhism and Evangelical Christianity.
