Since 2019 there’s been a rise of politicians that are using fake news as a weapon to discredit journalists. The first to do so was Trump, as soon as he didn’t like a critical opinion made by a journalist, he would claim that it was fake news to make it seem like the journalist is saying nonsense. Once that narrative is created most people won’t take the time to do the research to see if what was said is true or not which in turn causes people to believe whatever the running politician will say.
