Ignorance

I think that it was significant that Tara didn’t know the word “holocaust” and had no knowledge of race issues in the United States because it is a heavy part of history and I do not think that anybody does not know about this. It is an issue that is in our past and that still follows us to this day and that we are still fighting. Her awareness towards racism increases throughout the book because she learns more about the issues regarding racism in our history.
