First of all, in his book called American Palestine, Obenzinger explains how Herman Malville and Mark Twain had some special connection with Palestine. It attracts them by being so mythical and having some historical secrets on it. We can see, that pilgrimage which he cals also a "mania", makes reader curious about why American choose that place and why it became so popular. During 19th century, that "mania" was something special among Americans and all documents and books concerting to Palestine, they started to call Holy Land Literature.
