For centuries, Western society has separated human beings from the natural world, focusing on industrial development, all while viewing nature as raw material to be studied, controlled, and exploited for profit. A forest is reduced to timber, a river to a hydroelectric centre, and soil to land owned for building. All of nature is viewed as property before our eyes.
