I feel like God’s reaction was punitive, and I think the reason for that is the consequences that happen after eating the apple. I don’t believe that God is mad because Adam and Eve went against the only rule he had, I think that God is mad because he didn’t want them to gain knowledge about the world that they are living in. This would be symbolized by them realizing that they are naked. If they did gain knowledge, Adam and Eve might not follow what God says anymore and instead use logic to solve problems or try understanding the world around them.
