Jencks Presentation – Equality in the Classroom

The article “Whom Must We Treat Equally for Educational Opportunity to Be Equal?” by Christopher Jencks discusses equality and how different people apply it to their classroom environments. According to Jencks (1998), teachers have a different approach when it comes to promoting equality in their classrooms. He describes five ways to create an equal opportunity for teachers to dedicate their timing to students, it could be through “democratic equality, moralistic justice, weak humane justice, strong human justice or utilitarianism” (p. 519-520).
