Independent Expert on protection against violence and discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity has expressed rising concern regard the lack of recognition and discrimination people have to face due to homophobia and transphobia.71 countries criminalize sexual orientation and gender identity diversity. Of them, some 20 countries criminalize certain activities of forms of gender identity.In the United States, at least 22 transgender people have been killed so far in 2018, many of them women of colour.
