A trope is a recognizable plot element, theme or visual cue that conveys something unique. Every genre has distinct tropes of its own, they define how we communicate. In the novel “The Marrow Thieves” Cherie Dimaline cleary uses the trope of evil government. In a dystopian future where the majority of the population have lost their ability to dream after years of ecological devastation, the Canadian government authorizes the involuntary sacrifice of the Native American people who hold the cure for the dreamless in their bone marrow.
