I think that it is possible to use a camera to record reality, but the photographer needs to be aware of the settings that are on the camera. Digital cameras come with many settings that already alter the image before you even press the shutter button. It isn’t super crazy altering an image like imposing something into the image that isn’t there in reality, but contrast can already be enhanced, the camera automatically focuses on certain subjects, it brightens the image, etc.
