The most effective way of dealing with deepfake media is to look deeply into any video that may be suspicious. Also there needs to be a heavy penalty for using them in a malicious way. There needs to be some freedom to use the technology in an artistic way but not in a malicious one. To detect one can be very difficult now a days but if you look hard enough, you may spot something. With voice manipulation also becoming an issue, it may be even harder to tell whether you should look into a piece or not. You cant just believe it at first sight, especially if it does not come from a good source.
