I see the central ethical question for the digital arts moving into the future as being how to balance technology's ability to empower artists with its potential to exploit them. Nevertheless, as technology advances, the problem with manipulated digital art increases. In fact, that's often the point: the manipulation of the work is part of its appeal and meaning. But what happens when someone wants to make a piece of digital art that they can claim as their own? How do we know if they've been able to do so without stealing from someone else?
