On the night of January 29 2017, a mass shooting occurred at the Islamic Cultural Centre. In this mosque situated in Quebec City, 6 men were killed. After this unfortunate event, the Islamic Cultural Centre led a project that had been in the works since 2016, which was to create a new Muslim-run cemetery in Saint- Apollinaire. The mosque was ready to invest $215,000 into this project. However, residents of Saint-Apollinaire voted against this cemetery.
