Currently chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE), a concussion linked brain condition, can only be diagnosed postmortem. However, new research out of Boston University implicates that MRI may provide a way to identify the progressive brain disease sooner. CTE has been linked to repeated head hits, and it has been discovered in the brain autopsies of active and retired football players, as well as other contact sport participants. It's also been discovered in military personnel and victims of physical violence.
