My name is Alan Vitale and I teach high school at Northwest School of the Arts in Charlotte, North Carolina (USA). We live in a large city but our region is known for agricultural production. One of the problems our region faces is declining water quality. Urbanization has led to runoff and the destruction of aquatic areas and nearby farms add nitrates and animal waste to the water supply.
