I took the photo on the left in August, in the state of Kerala on the southwest coast of India. It was during a flood that killed more than 120 people. The city was shut down but still relatively safe, while severe landslides happened in rural areas causing mass destruction. It was heartbreaking for me to realize that the victims were voiceless and almost invisible. We hear politicians and corporate leaders talk all the time, but when do we ever hear from those who are carrying the consequences?
