The transgender term is used for those people whose gender identity is different from the gender they were thought to be at birth. It includes people who are masculine or feminine. Transgender people may identify as heterosexual, homosexual, bi sexual, asexual or may decline to label their sexual orientation. These communities generally celebrate pride, diversity, individuality, and sexuality. LGBT activists and sociologists see LGBT community-building as a counterweight to heterosexism, homophobia, biphobia, transphobia, sexualism, and conformist pressures that exist in the larger society.
