This book was recommended to me by my mother, who read it when she was younger. Sophie’s World by Jostein Gaarder is a very particular novel about the history of philosophy. Why particular? One might expect a book on philosophy to read like a textbook, and I bet most people would likely roll their eyes when hearing “history of philosophy.” But as you’ve probably noticed, the title is a bit odd for a philosophy book, isn’t it? You might be wondering, who is Sophie?
