Spirited Away, one of Studio Ghibli's most iconic films, is undoubtedly one of my all-time favorites—I’ve watched it at least 50 times! Recently, as I reflected on films that resonate with themes of democracy or social change, this masterpiece came to mind. What I'd like to discuss in this post is the underlying theme of materialism present in the film. The entire story serves as both a lesson and a warning about its dangers and consequences.
