The Benefits of Considering Animals' Well-being

Utilitarianism is based on Jeremy Bentham’s principle of utility, he suggests that “human actions and social institutions should be judged right or wrong depending upon their tendency to promote the pleasure or happiness for the greatest number of people.” (Bentham) It focuses on the positive or negative consequences that our choices have on “the party whose interest is in question”(Bentham). This saying is very inclusive, thus making utilitarianism the first moral philosophy to include nonhuman species.
