I think the most problematic issue with the modern industrial farming is the need for maximum profit. This drive to maximize profit leads to the abuse of farmers, animals, and employees. Animals can barely physically support themselves because they are being so over-fed and live in abysmal living conditions that should be classified as animal abuse.
