In an article written by Hilton Obenzinger, the idea of the Holy Land in US cultural history is discussed through the travels of Europeans. The text establishes that there was a discrepancy between Biblical writings about the Holy Land and the actual site. Obenzinger states that American Holy Land contained texts written based only on the personal experiences in Ottoman Palestine, being the Holy Land (Obenzinger 58).
