“The whole is greater than its parts” is a radical aspect of deep ecology. As was said in the book Deep Ecology From Anthropocentrism to Biocentrism on page 188, “if relative value between beings is to be determined, the being that is most crucial to the survival of the ecosystem as a whole should be given priority.” It is all about the well-being of the whole, without the whole no individual could exist.
