Animal testing has played a role in important advances in science. However, there are concerns regarding the well-being of the animals who are subject to the testing process. This has raised the questions; Are there alternative methods that can be used to test the safety of products? Do the potential benefits that society must gain justify the suffering of the animals? From a Utilitarian perspective, animal testing should only be supported if the benefits outweigh the harm and only if alternative methods are either unavailable or less effective.
