I believe that memory is malleable because it is very easy to implant memories that never happened onto another person’s memory base. I also feel like it is particularly difficult to know if a memory is true or just imagination when it comes to trauma. Just like we saw in the book, Tara starts doubting herself as to whether Shawn’s abuse was really as bad as she remembers, which proves how traumatic this was for Tara, as her subconscious is trying to push back this event in order to protect itself from pain.
