In my opinion, when Deep Ecologists refer to the whole they are talking about the entire ecosystem and when they talk about the parts, they are describing every individual thing that make up the planet. Therefore, without the whole, there cannot be any parts which is why they affirm that “the whole is greater than the parts”.
