being self-reliant

I consider myself to be a self-reliant person, but this attribute came with time and experience. As we age, we learn that certain areas of our lives need to be handled independently without being dependent upon others. That is why I think it is an important feature to have. Furthermore, you get to think for yourself and make decisions of your own, which I believe is the kind of education Mr. Westover is attempting to impart to his kids. For me, the kind of education that helps you get this ability is through gaining knowledge, wisdom, and confidence through the experience of our daily lives.
