Basically the gaia hypothesis is James Lovelocks's theory about the earth. He thinks that the earth is an immense, complex, self-sustaining organism. he compares the earth to a living organism. He continues by saying that the gases that form the earths atmosphere are life itself, given that it makes this plannet livable. In his hypothesis he says that all life forms are crucial to the stability of the "system".
